1812 Timeline

This 1812 timeline was one of our projects to help make history fun again.  It was half abandoned when we started pre-production on our first feature film.

1st

Disorder: New Years Riots in Edinburgh.

2nd

Finance: The giant banking firm, Boldero, Lushington and Co. go bankrupt.

4th

Blackwattle Swamp: Snake Fights Wood Workers

7th

Prescient Prince Regent’s speech opens the parliament that shook the world.

12th

Technology: First steamboat journey across the Mississippi completed

16th

King of Sicily declares his heir to be “Vicar General”

18th

Parliamentarian Benjamin Walsh convicted of Fraud.

February

7th

Religion: Third of the “prophesied” New Madrid earthquakes hits the Mississippi.

27th

Disorder: Lord Byron’s defends the Luddites in his maiden maiden speech in Parliament.

March

5th

Publishing: John Galt’s “Cursory Reflections on Political and Commercial Topics, as connected with the Regent’s ascension to the Royal Authority.” Printed by C.J. Barrington, advertised in “The Morning Chronicle.”

6th

Censorship: Daniel Isaac Eaton tried for “Libel against the king’s crown and dignity.”

26th

Earthquake destroys Caracas.  (Story: “Covered.”)

April

13th

Theatre: Marmion’s true origin discovered

29th

US Congress votes America’s first foreign aid, to Venezuela

May

11th

The British Prime Minister is assassinated

June

18th

The United States declares war on The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  Video: Canadian and American viewpoints.

24th

Napoleon invades Russia (You could experience this and other rides at Napoleonland!)

July

27th

Two day anti-peace riots start in Baltimore, Maryland and turn deadly.

August

19th

USS Constitution captures HMS Guerriere

USA: National Day of Humiliation and Prayer.  Sermons delivered throughout the country.
